I am trained in EMDR (EMDRIA-approved training) and Parts and Memory I & II for trauma processing. I work with pre-adolescents aged 8-12, young adults, and adults through retirement. I have experience working with clients through Anxiety, Depression, and ADHD, women’s issues, relationship distress, and life transitions.
While I am LDS, and can provide counseling through a Christian lens if desired, I support clients of all faiths and worldviews, including navigating stages of faith transition.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is designed to help you change how past struggles impact how you show up in your daily life. Sometimes, experiencing hard things can lead to automatic negative thoughts such as “It’s my fault,” “I’m unlovable,” or “I’m broken.” Those thoughts, on repeat, over years, can cause us to internalize and believe them to be true, even when they’re not. EMDR provides a framework for clients to identify those thoughts and choose new, adaptive thoughts instead. Read more about EMDR and research-backed, EMDRIA-approved therapy here.
I have experience working with ages 8-retirement age, including individuals, couples, and families.
Here are some guidelines for an effective first session with me:
- Reflect on what your goals for therapy are. These can be broad, like "feeling stuck," or specific, like "improve my relationship with my spouse."
- Write things down: If anything specific comes to mind that you'd like me to know, make a note in your phone or a notebook.
- Prepare questions: feel free to have a list of questions to ask me about my approach, what to expect, anything!
- Be open: the first session is about getting to know each other (I will be asking a lot of questions!) but my purpose is to help you in a way that works for you. Therapy is most effective when you are direct about what works for you, what doesn't, and even if you feel a therapist with a different approach may be a better fit - I'll help you find a trusted colleague that meets your needs.
“You can’t always change the hard but you can change the alone.”
“Wholeness is not something you achieve, it’s something you remember.”
“There are only 2 people you need to impress in life: your 8-year-old and 80-year-old self.”
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
“The wound is the place where the light enters.”
“Today I’m going to choose courage over comfort.”
